News from our Recent Mystery Tour
Thursday, April 14, 2011, was a beautiful day for our Mystery
Day Tour.
Enroute several
passengers speculated where we were motoring
No one guessed our destination and that was great.
Later the beautiful 4,000 foot long cable Bill
Emerson
Bridge came into view and
our group was told that we had arrived at our Mystery
destination. Our host
city was Cape Girardeau, MO.
A Convention and Visitor Bureau representative boarded
our bus and welcomed our happy group and gave each passenger a
Welcome Bag. We went into
the impressive Rosemary Berkel & Harry L Crisp II River Campus
Crossroads’ Theater and viewed an informative film of the area.
Rosemary passed away a few years ago with cancer but she
and her husband always made their home in Marion, IL as
owners of the family Pepsi Bottling business.
They were the donors of this wonderful structure located
on the banks of the Mississippi River as part of the
Southeast Mo.
River Campus...
Later we enjoyed a short
walking experience to view the Mississippi River Murals.: These
murals were painted by a painter from Chicago. They depict
prominent, authors, ballplayers and politicians’, for example,
who were born in Missouri It was a short distance down the
riverfront street to the most historic and oldest standing
structures west of the Mississippi River.
The building abstract dates prior to 1836.
This is the home for the Port Cape Girardeau Restaurant
and Theatre. A bountiful
buffet was served to everyone followed by The Mighty Mississippi
Melodrama comedy and musical entertainment.
Later our passengers arrived at the original My Daddy’s
Cheesecake property.
Delicious cheesecake and beverages were served in their private
dining room. A short
shopping time was available prior to our departure.
Enroute homeward we had some extra time and a side trip
was enjoyed driving up to the newel restored Alto Pass Cross for
our group picture. This
seem to be the perfect place to end our Mystery Tour in such a
scenic and perfect setting.
Shirley has another one day Mystery Tour in the
developing stage for next year. – don’t miss it
