By late afternoon arrive in MOOREHEAD, KENTUCKY, nestled in the foothills of Daniel Boone National Forest, gateway to the Appalachian mountain area. This is a very scenic and historical area. Check into our comfortable lodging and enjoy our evening meal. Included: Dinner October 18, Tuesday, Day 2… Enjoy a Cont’Bkf., and depart to the KENTUCKY FOLK ART CENTER. This Center showcases Kentucky arts and crafts. Nearby is the CORA WILSON STEWART “Moonlight School”. At Moorhead State University…In 1911 Cora Wilson Stewart furnished this area with “moonlight schools”, known as t=a forerunner of modern educations. Depart eastward a welcome WILD AND WONDERFUL WEST VIRGINIA. SCENERY IS AWESOME AS WE MOTOR INTO THESE MOUNTAINOUS AREAS. The fall foliage should be spectacular. Arrive in the railroad town of ELKINS FOR RWO NIGHTS LODGING. Dinner will be at Graceland Inn. Nearby is the popular American Mountain Theater Variety Show. This is Branson-style music and comedy. Return to our lodging and reflect on your exciting day. Included:Cont’ Bkf., Dinner. October 19, Tuesday, Day 3… Enjoy Cont’Bkf., and later arrive at the Elkins Train Station. Board THE CHEAT MOUNTAIN SALAMANDER for a 45 mile autumn time excursion into the Monongahela National Forest to the top of Cheat Mountain. A hobo lunch will be served in this beautiful area. We motor to the tiny mountain community of DURBIN AND BOARD THE DURBIN ROCKET. This is a historic train that worked through the 1950’s hauling timber and coal from the mountainsides. This locomotive has been meticulously restored to every day operation. The personnel on this train are very proud and attentive workers who love this trim’s history. We train through Greenbrier backcountry with autumn colors everywhere arriving back in Elkins. You may use your $10.00 meal voucher at our nearby restaurant for your evening meal. Return to our lodging and reflect on a wonderful day in WILD AND WONDERFUL WEST VIRGINIA. Included; Cont’ Bkf., Hobo Lunch, $10.00 Meal Voucher October 20, Wednesday, Day 4…Cont’Bkf., depart this mountain community of Elkins and motorcaoch this morning to northeast Kentucky, MAYFIELD, KENTUCKY, LOCATED ON THE BANKS OF Ohio, River. In the late 1700’s settlers floated down the Ohio River and settled into this area. We tour the historic area evident in the architecture with the beautiful iron grill work of the row houses along Third Street. This is reminiscent of New Orleans. We lodge in Maysville. Cont’ Bkf., Dinner Octber 21, Thursday, Day 5…Cont’ Bkf., before departing homeward. Motor along beautiful horse country evident with the white fences along the rolling hills. WE cross the Ohio River to Indiana and enjoy our farewell meal. Our AUTUMN TIME TOUR ENDS WITH EVERLASTING MEMORIES OF OUR two train excursion to WEST VIRGINIA. |
