We travel to SOUTHERN, IL. Enroute stop at historic SILKWOOK INN, named after Brazil’s Silk wood. We learn more about the Underground Railroad, and a young girl who survived the Trail of Tears; all part of the story of the Silkwood Inn near Mulkeytown….This freed slave girl survived the Trail of Tears and her love of hollyhocks. Your escort will give a detailed narration along with a package of hollyhocks to remember your visit. Motor to GIANT CITY VISITORS Center to view a short film relative to the developed area. Nearby is the historic GIANT CITY LODGE. Built in 1934 as a product of the CC Corps that developed this beautiful State Park... Enjoy a bountiful family-style meal served at the lodge. Later we travel the back roads to Rendleman’s Orchard to their Country Store filled with apples, preserves and locally grown products. Autumn time In Southern, IL is always a special experience.
