One Day Mystery Tour Photos -- July 8, 2010
Our Mystery destination was a
Carbondale Experience.
Tradewind passengers arrived at
the Neighborhood Co-Op Store.
We met the
Manager, Jerry who gave an informative discussion about
the
purpose of this popular Store.
For 25 years, the
Neighborhood Co-op has been
home providing
whole grains, unprocessed foods and
other
types of foods that not
readily available in most local markets. This market
supports local farmers who provide organic and natural
selections. This
is truly a shopping destination and healthful experience.
Next our coach and arrived at the Communications Complex on SIU Campus, which
is home base for
WSIU Radio and TV.
We enjoyed
guided tours of their Radio and T.V. Studios.
Everyone at one time or another enjoys watching the
wonderful programs provided by Public Television.
Ait was now time
for our unique lunch experience.
We were graciously welcomed at the Hunan Village Restaurant.
A special menu had been planned featuring
appetizers along with chicken, shrimp, pork and beef dishes,
complemented by
their tasty brown and sticky rice
presentations.
We were honored to have the
owner, San Chan give a wonderful history about
their long journey “to freedom” from
their home
land of Laos in 1959.
The Chan family loves Carbondale and they
are very thankful for the
community providing their
establishment with wonderful business. since 1959.
He introduced his wife, Jenny along with
their daughter, Sylvia.. It’s obvious this
is a hands-on business in which
the
Chan family takes a lot of pride. The décor and atmosphere
along with their attentive service was wonderful...
Our afternoon was informative at the local
Science
Center.
Their director introduced us to some of the animals they
have rehabilitated and cared for in a loving manner.
Enroute home a brief stop where our escort shared
information at the Woodlawn Historic Cemetery.
This was the
story of the
first observance of Memorial Day which is celebrated each
year. Also,
stories that have
been passed down
about the Sarcophagus which has a prominent and honored
area in the
Cemetery, The passengers enjoyed
a
welcome stop to purchase peaches and enjoy an ice
cream treat.
We look forward to another
Mystery Tour experience in 2011.
